Philippines Mission--Week 63--"Harry Potter" bus ride!

Maayong buntag sa kamong tanan! I'm kind of behind on the letters, but here you all go!

June 13th, Monday, Sister Paget and I visited a less active, Sister Lucia and we shared with her about putting our trust in God and striving to keep His commandments. We shared Mosiah 2:41 and bore our testimonies that only by our obedience can we truly be happy. After teaching Sister Lucia, we planned on teaching a recent convert, but ended up teaching her neighbor, Sister Espinoza. We just talked with her a bit about the Gospel and how it can bless families and help us have a better understanding about everything in life. She wasn't really interested at all, but at least we tried!

June 14th, Tuesday, today Sister Paget and I had our district meeting and then afterwards we ended up only being able to teach Sister Sachnanas and her son, Howell, because afterwards we had to go to the church in Consolacion and find our phone because the Elders accidentally took it. We taught the Sachnanas family about trusting in God because Brother Howell has been inactive for a while now. We think that he's really too shy to go to church, so he doesn't go. The children are less active and the mom and dad are still really active in the church. After teaching them, we found our phone, and then traveled to Danao because Sister Paget and I were going on exchanges with our STLs on Wednesday. The ride there was pretty fun. I love riding on buses here because they go so fast and weave in and out of traffic. It's so fun! It reminds me of the Harry Potter movie where Harry Potter is driving on that one bus and it's going really fast and moving past traffic without getting hit. If any of you come to the Philippines, you'll see what I mean; the driving is crazy here.

June 15th, Wednesday, today we went on exchanges and my companion was Sister Bertoldo from Colorado. We went and visited a part member investigator (she's been an investigator for a while because she and her boyfriend aren't yet married). We then visited a less active, Sister Minda and taught her about having faith to go to church. She hasn't been coming and so we shared that we can show faith by going to church. It was pretty fun being able to go to another sister's area and visit the members there. It was good seeing different people all over with different views in life about the Gospel and seeing their different struggles and trying to help them.

June 16th, Thursday, today we visited a less active, Sister Marlette, and shared with her about having scripture study because she hasn't been reading lately. Her boyfriend is an investigator, so we're trying to get Sister Marlette active again, so then she can help her boyfriend. After her, we visited Sister Brina Liston, our recent convert, and taught her about the plan of salvation. We mainly focused on The Atonement of Jesus Christ. This doctrine is one of my favorite because it's really helped me in my life, especially here on my mission. We also visited a less active, Sister Pocong, and shared with her about putting God first over everything else because she kind of struggles with working on Sunday instead of going to church. We were also able to share with a returned missionary, Brother Noel Deladia, about fellow-shipping people at the church. Brother Noel is a returned missionary, but sometimes acts like he's still in high school and that he never went on a mission. But we shared a bit with him, and then he shared a bit with us! It was surprising but he was pretty good at teaching! Especially since it's been a while since he's returned from his mission.

June 17th, Friday, after our weekly planning, we went and visited Sister Rosalie and shared with her about the plan of salvation. We taught her a bit about where we come from and The Fall of Adam. She's such a smart investigator. She understands things pretty quickly and loves to learn. She really wants to be baptized but the problem is that she isn't married to her boyfriend yet and so we're waiting for them to get married so they can get baptized! We then taught one of our other recent converts, the brother of Sister Brina Liston, Brother Jacob. We shared with him about faith. He was a lot more talkative this time and so it was a pretty good lesson because he actually got involved.

June 18th, Saturday, Sister Paget and I visited an investigator, Brother Alfredo, and taught him about faith and going to church because he's been struggling with being able to go because of his stroke. He says that he really wants to go, but he just hasn't been trying hard to find a way to go. We then shared with another investigator about prayer and the role of the Holy Ghost in our lives. This lesson was pretty frustrating because she really has not been progressing and we've been struggling getting her to come to church. We tried so hard to explain everything to her and help her, but she just kept making excuses as to why she can't focus on our message. After sharing with her, we visited a less active, Sister Booc, and shared with her about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. She and her husband broke up so it's just her raising their kids and she's been struggling lately. She's awesome though. She loves to come to church and hear messages from the missionaries. We also were able to share with our other recent convert, Brother Elmo, and we shared with him about seeking first the kingdom of God. They've been struggling with going to church and so we shared with them that if they put God first, they will be taken care of.

June 19th, Sunday, a member called Sister Paget and I into a room in the church, and when we entered, we saw a table set up all fancy with a home cooked meal on top. The member had cooked us some chicken, peas and carrots, and baked potato! Oh man.. it was the best home cooked meal that I've had in the last 17 months. Sister Paget and I were too excited to eat it, that we kind of just stared at it for a couple of minutes haha. #Blessed

After church we had our regular missionary meeting and then we were going to have a missionary fireside with all of the members, but a lot of them had gone home, or were in meetings that took forever, so we just sat there waiting for them to be done. They had taken too long, so we just left and decided not to have the fireside. The only person we could visit was Brother Juwarsi and his girlfriend, Sister Renalyn. We shared with them "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" and explained their roles as parents. They want to be baptized but can't because they aren't married yet. But I know that if they are baptized and raise their kids in the Gospel, their lives would be a lot easier and happier.

I love you all! Amping sa kanunay!

Love,

Sister Johnson
