Philippines Mission--Week 64

Maayong hapon sa kamong tanan! Well, the transfer is coming to an end. Just 9 more days . . . and then 6 more weeks and I'm home. Crazy! But for now.. here's my letter!

June 20th, Monday, Sister Paget and I went to the mall to do some shopping, and we sat down and had a drink. And as we were sitting, this white guy comes up to us and sits down. His name was Mickey. He was from Ireland and it was an interesting conversation. He told us that he used to believe in God but then as he got older, he kind of just stopped believing that God was real. (Which I don't understand how anybody could do that, but he did it)! He was a pretty nice guy, except for the fact that he would use really foul language around us. I'm pretty sure we sat there for a good1 to 2 hours with him just talking about how religion is wrong, and God isn't real. But we never argued and so it wasn't that bad of a conversation. He lives in Liloan and owns a little place where people can go and play music on a Friday night. If I ever come back to the Philippines I'll find him again.

June 21st, Tuesday, Sister Paget and I visited Sister Brina Liston, our recent convert, and retaught her some of the lessons. We went over the Plan of Salvation and the 3 Kingdoms of Heaven. She's pretty quick to understand so the lesson went by quickly. We then turned around and taught her younger sister, Sister Ana, about tithing and how important it is to always pay so we can receive blessings. She's been having trouble coming to church because she now works on Sundays, so she hasn't paid her tithing. She's a smart girl and understands the doctrine, but is having trouble applying it. Afterwards we taught their youngest sibling, Sister Jessa, about prayer because she's pretty young and sometimes forgets to pray. She's so cute! After teaching some of the Liston kids, we went to the Deladia home and taught Flobert, a less active in the family, about prayer also. The whole time while teaching he just did NOT seem interested. We tried getting to know him and getting him to open up, but he wouldn't even really talk. It was kind of sad.

June 22nd, Wednesday, Sister Paget and I traveled to the Liloan chapel because President and Sister Tanner are leaving on June 30th! They will be ending their mission, and we will be getting a new mission president. It was a really good farewell. We watched a video, "Like a Broken Vessel," with Jeffrey R. Holland. It was awesome. I suggest you all watch it! After the party, we said our goodbyes and then went and taught some less actives. We taught Sister Lucia about the covenant that we make when we are baptized, and then we taught the Booc family about prayer because they don't really have family prayers.

June 23rd, Thursday, we were able to visit a less active, Anjelo Sachnanas. and teach him about prayer. (This week we've taught a lot about prayer). He hasn't really been having his daily/nightly prayers so we reminded him to always do it so he may be guided throughout his life. We then taught Brother Gino Liston, recent convert, about the Book of Mormon and why it's important to always read it. He's struggling with having the desire to read it because he doesn't' really have a testimony about it. After teaching him, he seemed more interested so that's a start! We then taught Sister Deladia (active member) about teaching and sharing with her kids the Gospel so they can grow old and be blessed throughout their lives. After her, we visited Sister Renalyn (investigator) about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. She's struggling with forgiving her husband about what he's done in the past, and so we thought that the Atonement would be good to share because it not only helps heal our wounds, but helps us to forgive others.

June 24th, Friday: Today we visited an investigator from America about the Restoration. Brother John Johnson is pretty receptive, but at the same time, it's kind of obvious that he's not interested. So we're hoping that the next time we visit him and teach him about the Book of Mormon, he'll grow an interest. We shall see! After him, we taught Brother Juwarsi, Brother ArAr, Brother Arnie, (siblings) and Sister Rosalie (dating the sibling of the boys) about repentance. We shared from Alma 36 because it's a really good chapter about repentance and how we can change ourselves if we just rely on the Lord.

June 25th, Saturday, Sister Paget and I went out early and taught Brother Alfredo about the Holy Ghost because he struggled to understand where his answers come from when he prays. We then taught Brother Charlie, a part member, about families and how our families can be eternal in the church. Afterwards, we went and picked up our recent convert, Sister Brina, and went to the temple! We weren't allowed to have a session, but we could walk outside the temple and take pictures. It was Sister Brina's first time going and so she was really excited. We all sat underneath a tree and taught Sister Brina about temples and eternal marriages. It was awesome teaching her at the Temple because the Spirit was strong! I loved it!

June 26th, Sunday: Today we weren't able to teach anyone, because we got out of church late, and then found out that our recent convert, Brother Elmo, had a fever and was really sick; so we waited for the Elders to come and give him a blessing. Afterwards we just went over to the Sachnanas family and ate some dinner and then went home. There's not much to tell.

"The Lord blesses those who want to improve"

I love you all!

Love,

Sister Johnson
